Next Steps After Round 5 Seat Allotment

Candidates allotted a seat in Round 5 must decide on their admission offer within the stipulated deadline:

  1. Exercise Willingness (Freeze or Float)
  • Freeze: If satisfied with the allotted campus and academic programme, candidates can choose the ‘Freeze’ option. This locks the admission offer, and the candidate will not be considered for upgrades in subsequent rounds.
  • Float: If candidates wish to accept the current seat while keeping the option open for a higher-preference campus/programme in Round 6 or Round 7, they must select the ‘Float’ option.
  1. Pay Seat Acceptance Fee (SAF)

To secure the allotted seat, candidates must submit the non-refundable Seat Acceptance Fee (SAF) through the online payment gateway (Net Banking, Debit Card, or Credit Card). Failure to submit the SAF within the deadline results in the automatic cancellation of the allotted seat, and the candidate becomes ineligible for further regular counselling rounds.

Understanding IISER Round 5 Closing Ranks

The closing rank (cutoff) represents the last rank at which admission was granted to a specific IISER campus in Round 5. Several factors determine the closing rank trends:

  • Total Number of Test Takers: Overall candidate performance and score distribution in IAT 2026.
  • Seat Matrix: Total sanctioned intake across participating IISER institutes.
  • Campus Preferences: Historical demand and student choices (e.g., IISER Pune, IISER Kolkata, and IISER Mohali typically see earlier cutoffs).
  • Reservation Norms: Category-wise seat distributions including General, OBC-NCL, EWS, SC, ST, and PwD categories.

Candidates who did not secure a seat up to Round 5 should monitor the upcoming Round 6 and Round 7 cutoffs, as vacant seats resulting from non-payment of SAF or withdrawals are rolled over to the subsequent rounds.
